Public meeting planned for September 15

The Denver Union Station Project Authority (DUSPA) will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, to provide an update on the project and to answer questions.  The meeting will be held from 5:30-7 PM at the RTD Administrative Office, 1600 Blake Street, in Rooms T&D.

In preparation for the meeting, Kiewit will be constructing mockups of the three paver options for Wynkoop Plaza outside of the DUS construction office (South wing of the historic station in the outdoor seating area). Each will be 10’x10’ with two of mockups having 4”x8” pavers and another with 6”x12” pavers.

The mockups will be installed/assembled on Tuesday, Sept. 14 and will be removed late Thursday, Sept. 16. This will coincide with the Public Meeting to allow participates the opportunity to view the options throughout the day prior to the meeting.

New Transit Hub

What will Union Station look like?

As the hub of RTD’s FasTracks program, the redevelopment of Denver Union Station is a crucial component of one of the largest transportation projects in North America. The multimodal hub will knit many different transportation modes and six new public plazas in one place with convenient, attractive and engaging pedestrian and bicycle connections. The Historic Station, the symbol of the project and heart and soul of the transit district, will be rehabilitated to its historic prominence. Upon completion, Denver Union Station will be an exciting destination and a major transportation gateway to the region.

The Denver Union Station Project Authority (DUSPA), Regional Transportation District (RTD) and City and County of Denver hosted a Denver Union Station Construction Celebration on September 7 on the west side of the historic station on the site of the future commuter rail station.

State and local officials participated in the ceremony, including Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Denver City Councilwoman Judy Montero, Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Executive Director Russ George and RTD Chairman Lee Kemp.

DUSPA Board Chair Elbra Wedgeworth told an audience of project stakeholders, elected officials and people watching via a live webcast that DUS is the latest in a long line of major accomplishments for the Front Range and the people of Colorado.

“We always think big in Colorado – DIA, the Summit of the Eight, FasTracks, the Democratic National Convention and, of course, Denver Union Station,” Wedgeworth said. “We can all be very proud of what we are creating here together.”
